For our purposes I have labeled this series "Park Tours."

Although any outside public venue is limited in its' ability to provide exclusive privacy, there are some that are both intimate and convenient. Today's entry is just such a place. The following video clip is of Kapiolani Park. It is adjacent to Waikiki and is very spacious.

You can reserve a particular area of the park to conduct your ceremony and expect to a fair amount of privacy for you and your guests. One caveat, weekends and holidays probably won't hold true to this claim, so plan accordingly. Contact me with questions regarding permitting.

Beach Wedding Location Tour #2

Just a quick, and not so different variation of the previous post of beach spots on Oahu. The particular angle in this video is basically the reverse perspective of the first beach posting.

As previously mentioned, the central Waikiki area is not ideal for weddings. However, in the very near proximity there are a numbers of spots ideal for small gatherings. My intention is to continue shooting clips of the in town locations, then gradually work my way to the country.

I'll try to also start another series of other potential locations for ceremonies at places other than the beach. As I was walking my dog (my Golden Retriever named C.J.) this morning on the waterfront I decided to pull out my cell phone and record a video. It isn't particularly a masterpiece but at least you get the idea.

This specific setting is shot along the shores of Waikiki. Now I don't recommend this area as it is generally crowded and wedding permits are not issued for this area anyway. However, there are a number of ideal spots for a small intimate ceremony practically a stone's throw away from this area. Beaches on Oahu vary in what is permitted, so be sure to inquire regarding anything you may be unsure about.

As time permits I will continue to add onto this post with more videos and information regarding the various locations available around our magical island.

Hawaii Wedding Trends

While always wonderful, it seems to me that Hawaii weddings were fairly predictable for a very long time. As of late however, there has been a trend towards very uniquely personalized features.

Undoubtedly Hawaii beaches will continue to be a favored location for weddings with both locals and those from overseas, but recently there looks to be a move towards more exotic spots. In particular, spacious outdoor locations with one of a kind facilities are popular. “One of a kind” in this case does not necessarily mean expensive, but creativity and imagination have been taken beyond their normal boundaries. Just today in fact, I had the honor and privilege of presiding over a Christian ceremony which took place on the grounds of a Japanese temple while koto (a Japanese stringed instrument) was being played as ambient background music.

Just as big are the changes in color schemes, accessories and options. In particular, photography and videography have advanced tremendously, and with that has offered couples quite an array of options in hi-tech albums and DVDs. I am aware of an upcoming ceremony that will feature a somewhat scaled down facsimile of a scene that was portrayed in the movie “Love Actually” where the singers and instrumentalists are dispersed randomly throughout the facility and spontaneously arise to perform a gospel like rendition of the Beatles’ “All You Need is Love”.

As these trends will certainly continue to morph throughout the coming months and years, I look forward sharing the new things we experience in upcoming posts. Best wishes and may God bless you.
